2018 UN World Interfaith Harmony Week

Who and Where Are We in a Changing World?

Faith leaders speak on Creation Stories and the Meaning of Life in our Universe.

Saturday February 24, 2018

Deakin Edge, Federation Square, Melbourne, Australia

We can feel overwhelmed when we are faced with so much negativity and lack of concern for the ‘other’ through the media and our personal experience. Questions are raised about the meaning of life.
Is this all there is?

Scientists can explain the meaning of life in the universe in scientific terms but cannot tell us the meaning of our lives, we must work it out for ourselves. Virtually all religions have Origin Stories that, while differing importantly from each other, agree that the existence of the universe as a whole and of our individual lives, is due to a creative divine will, rather than a lucky accident.

In observance of the 2018 World Interfaith Harmony Week, seven spiritual and religious leaders came together to share wisdom and the meaning of life from their Creation Stories and their sacred texts. Indigenous, Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish, Christian, Muslim and Sikh faith leaders drew from literal, moral, symbolic and spiritual levels of understanding about our place in the Universe and the role of human beings in the natural world.
Over one hundred people of diverse faiths and no faith, attended the event and many hundreds of people who could not be present in person on the day viewed the faith leaders’ talks on line.
